Legends of the Mechanical Knight

Again it seems that I am behind on the posts, I have also been working on an actual name for this story.  It started out as just the "Robot Dragon Slayer" but that seems a bit limited and not much better than "Working Title".  Regardless, we have finally met a dragon and the story continues:

The bottom image is the original drawing done for the card.  It is hand drawn on an 8.5x11 sheet of paper and rendered with Copic Markers.  The drawings are then scanned and composed in Photoshop with the text and printed on card stock small enough to fit into the lunch bag.

This week finds the Robot Dragon Slayer still working on his quest, the setting sun glints off of his few remaining clean surfaces and he is precariously perched on a ledge reaching for the next safe spot.

Dr. Who - Sontaran

Sontaran property of respective rights holders
This character is a request from my son from Dr. Who.  Evidently a potato-head alien that I have never heard of, still he was fun to work on shading and subtle lines, I wish I had spent more time on him though.

Math Team Compositions

I had been asked by a friend to do some designs for her son's math team.  Below are some items that I have been working on for her.

The two images above are working parts of another Math team composition.  The idea is to have the results of what Math can do, dealing with science and engineering along with some molecules.  Option 1 is below.

This composition is option 1 for the math team and is a little more traditional in characters standing in front of some text.  The school colors are orange and black.

5th Grade Bag #21

All images and text copyright 2013 - Michael Smith - Doodle Bag Productions
This week Sara finds that the Gym Rat is moving his sports equipment into the Locker Gnome's storage facility. The Rat claims that the Gnome doesn't need as much space anymore since the kids are all using electronic devices instead of books. The electronics are harder to sneak out of lockers and don't take as much room anyway.

Darth Maul is owned by Lucasfilm
This week's sketch card for my son is Darth Maul from the most recent set of Star Wars movies.  It is a black card and prismacolors.

Figrin D'an

Figrin D'an is the property of Lucasfilm
Sketch Card for my son.  He was playing the Catina Song from Star Wars on his violin, so I thought a Bith band member would be a good character for him.
